MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A house fire destroyed a home just outside the city limits of Myrtle Beach Sunday afternoon. The fire started at the home on Arundel Dr. in Plantation Point, just west of U.S. Highway 17 near 38th Avenue North.

According to Chief Alvin Payne the fire broke out around 3:15 p.m. and both the Myrtle Beach Fire Department and Horry County Fire Rescue responded.  When they arrived on the scene the home was fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters were at the home for hours Sunday. The last fire trucks left shortly after 11 p.m.

Payne said the side wood panelling and wind could have been factors in the flames spreading so quickly.

WMBF News spoke to neighbor Mike Addy who lives beside the house that burned. He was not home when the fire started, so when he returned to see fire trucks and heavy smoke near his house, he said he was worried.

"I saw the fire truck right in front of my house or the neighbor's house, so obviously I got out [of the car] and ran," Addy said.

No one was hurt in the fire, but Lt. Sam Vest with the Myrtle Beach Fire Department considered the home a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
